Kasunanan Palace Solo

Solo is a major city in central Java, Indonesia. Together with Yogyakarta, these two cities are heirs of the Mataram kingdom which was split in 1755. Solo is the short name for Surakarta. Solo is situated at about 100 kilometers to the South of Semarang and some 60 kilometers east of Yogyakarta. Solo is the twin sister of Yogyakarta and the city looks pretty much the same as Yogyakarta. Solo is not a provincial capital and has hence preserved much of its Javanese character. This also means that Solo is less of a tourist destination than Yogyakarta.

Solo is today a bustling commercial center of some 800,000 (with the suburbs). It is in close proximity to the temples of Prambanan. The town is a center of art and education, and also offers some good shopping and has a number of tourist facilities. The city of Solo is also well known for its charming and soft spoken people. The city according to many is the least westernized city in Central java.

Kasunana Palace, Solo is an enormous landmark in the city. The Palace was the house of the Java king who ruled over Central Java, century ago. The palace is huge and was built in the year 1745. Some of the things you must see on a tour of the palace include the numerous statues, royal heirlooms, ancient weapons and precious. "The Tower Of The Universe” which is a meeting place of The Goddess of the Sea is also a must see.

There are a number of popular tourist attractions in Solo. The Kasuanan Palaceand the Puro Mangkunegaran Palace are the two most visited tourist destinations here. The Puro Mangkunegaran Palace was built in 1757. The Jurung Zoo is another popular attraction which has also features an aquarium. Sriwedari Park is a place of art and culture. There are puppet shows/wayang conducted in the evenings. There is also a playground and a food court. Sahasra Adhi Pura is a new Hindu temple which is under construction situated 5 kms east of Solo.
