Nias People

This group is consist of 11 islands along the coast with biggest are Nias and Siberut islands. Nias People has of Mongoloid physical characters, with bright yellow accented skin and straight hairs. They live in a simple way, and just currently they got the influence from Sumatra mainland. Their megalithic culture is still strong, which is become the main attraction for tourists beside their fine beaches and clear water. Most people lives on farming and fishing.

Toba Lake holding great potentials of tourism

Melani Butar Butar, the head of Samosir`s tourism office, said that North Sumatra`s Toba Lake has great potential to be developed into a marine tourism area and Samosir Island`s plains and the surrounding mountains can become a nature, agro and cultural tourism destination.

She said the natural and cultural wealth of Samosir district held many things that would attract tourists because it was located on an island in Toba Lake.
